Life for Life

Life for Life is a not for profit, non-denominational registered charity based in Chadderton. The charity works in conjunction with various local authorities and water utility companies that have made picturesque and panoramic landscapes available where trees can be planted in memory of a lost loved one or in celebration of a special occasion such as a birth, marriage or transplant operation. For example, Arthur Brown, who had a lung transplant at the Wythenshawe clinic, planted a tree in memory of his donor. In return for about a £400 donation a medium sized tree is planted. By each tree a commemorative plaque is placed on its own post which is inscribed with a personal sentiment of up to 30 words. The charity issues a ‘Certificate of Plantation’ with the date and species of the tree. The family name is then recorded into a ‘Book of Remembrance’ which is kept for viewing by the chosen planting area. All the money generated by the scheme goes to charity for the benefit of others. In the case of the Lymm memorial forest New Start is able to bid for funding from the ‘Life for Life’ Charity for specific projects at the Transplant Centre, thus benefiting all of our patients.

The beauty of this scheme is summed up in the charity’s phrase…“Love Someone…Miss Someone…Help everyone…Plant a Tree”. Unlike some charitable donations planting a tree gives a living, lasting reminder of a special event that can be visited frequently in beautiful surroundings. It has the added benefit of improving the environment in a variety of ways. The memorial forests are maintained and managed in partnership with the local authorities in the various areas. All trees are regularly inspected by qualified groundsman to maintain a high quality of service.
